Shelton. of Gishorne, waited upon the Committee in reference to the question of the faulty handling of meat in London. The President stated that those who had heard Mr Lysnar on Thursday would bo satisfied that the movement lie had inagurated was one deserving of support. Mr Lysnar said he was glad that: the freezing companies had now come j out in the open and admitted that) there was room for improvement. It j wa.s desired that those Avho were ship- j ping on their own account should be assured that they were receiving the fullest value for their output. It was also desired that those who did not care to take the risk of shipping under present circumstances should feel that the conditions, were so improved that they CGuld ship on their own account and get the full value of their produce. This was the one object of the Produce Committee, ft was proposed to send a representative Home independent of the companies. The first proposal was to improve the dock facilities and to increase the storage capacity. It was also decided to put in a system of rails, and to urge the doing away with the deduction of 21bs > on each carcase of mutton. Pending! This assurance had been eiven. A representative was required to see that the work was carried out in the best possible way. A cable had received from Lord Devonport on !, Friday, stating that the improvements to the dock were being proceeded with. It was thought that a sum ■>f £1750 would be sufficient to pay Hio expenses of a representative. Of t-hi<s amount, only £3OO was now re-"•ui'-ed. It was proposed that, when legislation was nrovided, the amount subscribed would be refunded in whole sr in part. Mr Lysnar concluded ivith an appeal for financial assistance, and suggested that a committee be set np to act with the Producers' Com- I mittee. The President proposed that a subcommittee be appointed, consisting of Messrs D. J. Cameron, J. Strang, H. Morrison, G. Shaw, W. H. Cruickshank, H. H. Beetham. and W. Perry, with power to add to their number. The resolution was seconded by Mr A. G. Pilmer and carried. Mr 0. C. Cooper stated that it would be necessary for the committee to take some little time to collect subscriptions. In proposing a vote of thanks to Mr Lysnar, Mr D. McGregor, junv., said that it had been suggested that it would not be necessary to duplicate
the efforts of the freezing companies. He pointed out, however, that the companies had failed in the' past to effect reform, and did not appear to know what know what was going on at the other end. 1 The motion was seconded by Mr I Lett and carried, unanimously.
