j The Rev. C. H. Olds preached his , farewell sermon in the Masi-erton Methodist Church last evening to a crowded congregation. Mr J. T. M. Hornsbv, the Government candidate for the Wairarapa seat, addresses a meeting a- Dalefield this evening. Bro. John Phillipson, High Chief Ruler of the Rechabite Order, will arrive in Masterton to-day. He wili be met at tlio station by prominent Rechabitefc and others.
Mr and Mrs Toogood. and Miss Toogood, of Hohiwai. intend leaving this month on an extended trip to the Old Country and the Continent.
Messrs G r Heron and A. Mutrie have been elected life directors of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society in recognition of the Jong and faithful services they have rendered the Society.
Mr W. D. Lysnar, Mayor of Gisborne. was in Masterton again on .Saturday, and after addressing the Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association, proceeded to Wellington.
The remains of tho late Mr H. F. Lane Were interred in the Masterton Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the funeral ceremony peing performed by tho Rev. W. Raine. The Borough Council was represented by His Worship the Mayor and several councillor.:. Members of the borough staff acted as pall-Tjearers.
It is stated that Mr T. C. Williams is the oldest Now Zeaksd?r Jiving |r the Dominion.. Mr Witliamsi was born at Paihia, in the Bay of Islands, as far back as 1825, Mr and Mrs F. C. Daniel!, of Hamilton, are at present on a visit to Masterton.
Mr W. Wakeman, one time of Masterton. has been elected President of the Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Arnold W. Izard has announced his intention of contesting the Wellington North seat in the Government interest at the next general election.
Mr Joseph Mandel. for some years licensee of tho Club Hotel in Masterton. is a candidate for a seat on the Wellington City Council. A pleasing ceremony was performed at the Masterton Borough Council offices on Saturday morning, when Mr F. F. Lamb, who has received the appointment of assistant Town Clerk at Dannevirke, was the recipient of a set of silver-mounted pipes and tobacco pouch, suitably inscribed, from the office and outside staffs of the Council. In the absence of the Mayor Mr J. W. Blackinan made the presentation. and on behalf of those present wished Mr Lamb every success in his new sphere of life. Mr Lamb will leave for Dannevirke by the mail-train to-day. Mr Magnusson. who is Town Cierk of Dannevirke, was also previously assistant at the Masterton Borough Council office.
Major Rowley, who conducted the services in the Salvation Army barracks yesterday, will deliver an illustrated lecture in the barracks this evening on "The Three National Evils. 15
