Inspector J. W. Deem, of the Stock Division of the Agricultural Department, is at present a visitor to Mastorion.

Mr \V. G. Foster, managing director of tiro Wellington Meat Export Company, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday.

Mr W. D. Lysnar, Mayor of Glsborne, left Masterton for Dannevirke last, evening. Mr J. Tripe, secretary of the Gear Meat Company, was in Masterton yesterday. Mr Shelton, of Gisborne, accompanied Mr Lysnar on his visit to Masterton yesterday. It is stated, that Mr Shelton has been suggested as a suitable representative to proceed to London on behalf of the Produce Com' mittee.

The friends of Mr Joseph Carpenter, of Masterton, will regret to hear that he has been somewhat seriously indisposed during the last few days.

The death occurred at the Masterton Ho:pital, at a late hour on Wednes- i day night, of Mr H. F. Lane, who for I ni".e .years has held the position of assistant Town Clerk to the Masterton Borough Council. Deceased had been ailing for a. considerable time, and was recently removed to the Hospital. The late Mr Lane was suffering from sciatica, which developed into an internal complaint. He was highly esteemed by those who knew him, who will extend to his wife and two children their sincerest sympathy. Deceased was 44 years of age. The funeral will leave the late residence, in Essex Street to-morrow afternoon.

AY. Fogwell (who is to row Whelch .it Akaroa) and J. Arnst (brother of the champion) arrived by the Moeraki at Wellington on Wednesday. Mr Newtpn-Jones, evangelist of the T ondon Sunday School Union, has arrived at Frernantle. on a visit to Australia. Later he will proceed to NewZealand.

A London cable states that Mr Mobf'ly Bell, managing director of The Times, is dead. His death, which 'vjvf. sudden, took place while he was at the offices of Tho Times.

The Hastings Tribune has the following concerning Masterton's new Town Clerk : —Mr J. Archer has placed in the hands of the Napier Town Clerk his formal resignations of the positions of Inspector of Public Amusements, Superintendent of the Napier Volunteer Fire Brigade. Mr Archer's resignnlions. are to take effect from April 4-th. The Brigade is losing the services of an enthusiastic and capable officer.
