DISTRICT NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondents.} CARTERTON. Some fourteen head of fawn have been captured in tho Gladstone district this season for liberating in various parts of the province. A portion of the capture was brought into the local .ailway station yesterday for ;:onsignment. These are for the Fea- | therston district, some for Hawke's Bay, and a for, * iii ± 0 to the farm at Paraparaumu. They were a healthy lot, in fact tho best that had been seen for some time. A euchre party and dance, tho proceeds being in aid of the Clareville School funds, took place m the hi l . 1 there last evening. There was a g..:-;. attendance, and a pleasant evening' amusement resulted. The first annual meeting of the Association formed by the Carterton Tradesmen is to be held on Tuesday evening next. A rather important "o j tice of motion has been tabled for discussion. The Egg Circle movement is beginning to spread, which* is only to bo expected as the benefit of the organisation becomes mors 'vidolv known. Yesterday an interested party here received a communication from New Plymouth asking for information as to the working of the Circle, a movement being afoot there. An effort is being made in Carterton to form an Orange Lodge. It is understood that a number have been circulated on the subject and a meeting was held last evening.
It i: stated that an Association i° being formed to take up the Wostbrook Block, near Masterton, under the State Land Settlement Finance Act. A special muster parade of the Carterton Rilles is to he held on Fndnevening. At this parade all Government property must be handed in, and arms presented for inspection. At a meeting of the South WairorRiver Board on Monday, it was decided to plant about five chains along the spit of the lake with mar ram grass in May. It was reporte*that the outlet was again clo?ed. and that it would be opened as soon as there was enough water in tho LaVe
