DRINK AND SQUALOR.

A man named Alexander Cairey, aged 42, a 'resident at 165 Montreal Street, died suddenly at about 8 o'clock this morning. At the inquest, the evidence showed that deceased was a remittance man, and a chronic drunkard. He had been at Pakatoa, but leading an exemplary ex:Vff»*ioe>* was released on probation. A sum of £l5O in remittance money had accumulated in the meantime, and this he spent in drink-in a comparatively brief period. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, * that deceased died from chronic alcoholic poisoning- "
