AMUSEMENTS.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.'. i In anticipation', of witnessing a. " particularly good programme,- there was a ]arge number of persons present last night at the Foresters' Hall; nor were they disappointed, / as the series is one-of the best Messrs Thompson and Payne have » placed before their patrons. A feature of the programme was the beautiful coloured scenics depicting ' pretty spots in "Adriatic Baviera," "The Gorges of L'Ardeche," and in . Valermo. The dramas were firstclass, the photography and," acting"" s ' being excellent. "Faust," taken from Gothier's tragedy, was a splendid study, while "John Halifax, Gentleman," adapted from the world famous novel of that name, was a decided favourite with the audieuce. "A Cowboy's Chivalry" was a stirring Wild West drama, and "The Rivalry of the Guides" had much to recommend it. The comics were genuine laughter-raisers, and met with the general aproval of the .audience. The programme will 'be repeated this evening.
