THE ARSON CHARGE
BARKER ADMITTED TO PROBA- - TION: '"■"•*■' '...■ Leo Barker./ who. was found guilty oir Tuesday on a charge of arson, was brought up for sentence yesterday morning. Mr Pownafl asked permission to produce evidence to show the good character accused had Lome in the past.
Mr Bunny stated the prisoner had bornea good character. Mr Bunny asked that Backer, be ordered to make restitution to those who had suffered loss from the lire. v
His Honor said that he did hot feel justified in making an.order on the evidence before him as to the value of the. property. The parties suffering 1 loss-had a civil remedy, and the liability of Barker in this respect was one from which bankwould not release him. No order would be made.
