MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Council was held on Saturday, the 25th inst. Present,— Crs. P. W. H. Kummer (chairman), H. J. Dagg, C. Ohurcliil Jackson, \ J. E. Perry, 0. Isakson, and E. Pedersen. Or Pedersen was welcomed'by the chair" man on again taking a seat at the table, and was congratulated on being elected without opposition. The following correspondence was dealt with:— From Chief Health Officer, and Secretary to the Charitable Aid Board, re admission of C. Tongs to the Victoria Home; from C. Fauvel junr. and A. Falkner re leasing reserve at Kaiparoro; from Thos. Strawbridge re need for repairs on Mount Munro Road East; from J. Whiting re metalling Miro Street. The Sanitary Inspector reported having visited Hastwell in connection with cases of scarlet fever. Schedules of accrued thirds were forwarded by the Receiver of Land 'Revenue.' •• .'■"' '••.' •;;.■'... : ''; ■' v. • It was reported that metal repairs on Mahpe Street, which had been-delayed, had. now been started, and Miro otreet and Heaynes Road will be attended to at the same time. Mount Munro Road East will be inspected and reported on. Messrs 0. Seymour and M. Ammundsen, representing settlers in Hastwell and Bowen Road, attended and urged the Council to take steps at once to widen and metal a short section of Bowen Road, which, in wet weather is almost impassable. The chairman said that lie had lately, had personal experience of this part of the road, and admitted the need of improvement. After a lengthy discussion it was resolved to expend a sum not exceeding £2O on the •work;;- '• Messrs Falkner and Parker also attended the meeting re leasing reserve. It was pointed out that the | Council, while, not opposed to their request, had at present no control of these small reserves, and . the Clerk was instructed to communicate wjtk the on # the subject for' these 'small 'reserves 'between, the River. v _■•'; ...-.,'. ■. ; ;.....,,.,..; ? on Mount Bruce Road, which needs renewal, and proceed with the work of renewal as seems be't to them. Owing to complaints that stock being driven along the Main Road have been injured! by contact with a ; barbed, wire fence, near what is known as the Muddy the Clerk was directed to write to Mr C. j Hoffeins,. .desiring him to remove the barbed wire from the fence. Accounts amounting to £269 Os iOd were passed for payment.
