MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Mas? terton Borough Council was held lad; evening, there being present,—. Hifs Worship the, Mayor (Mr J. M. v 'Coradine), prs. J.; Prentiee, 'W. Pragncil, R. Rigg, F. W."'.Temple, J.' Elliott, X C. Ewington, audi W. Morris. .•■

; F. Edward Lamb wrote forwarding his resignation, as an employee' of' the.. Coiineil "owing to. the .fact thathe had been appointed to ths position of Assistant Town Clerk at iDannevirke, andi asking that he be relieved of his duties as soon as convenient. Be also asked that he be given a testimonial by the Coun- • cil with regard to his services on the clerical staff of the Council.

On the motion of Or Ewington, seconded' by{Cr Morris, it was decided to accept. the; resignation, i*elieve Mr Lamb of his duties as soon as convenient, and! that the Mayor be authorised to write him a, testimonial. . The ; ..Mayor referred iii eulogistic ! terms to Mr Lamb's good work as a servant of the Borough, and ex- : •pressed the hope that he w'ould be successful in his new position. An application was .received from G-. Morris, the poundkeeper, for the installation of gas at the cottage at the pound.— The application was granted. A letter from the contractors for the installation of the electric fire alarm system was referred to the Fire Board. The secretary of the Masterton South Brass Band wrote asking permission to hold a sacred* concert oh April 16th in the Town Hall, and the right.to take up a collection. Cr Temple moved that in the opinion of the Council the concert was not for charitable purposes, as provided by a previous resolution of the Council. Cr Ewington moved as an amendment that the permission be granted subject to the programme being approved by the committee which exists for the purposes of dealing with Siinday concerts.'; : ' : ' '..;. ; ; Cr Morris seconded the amendment, which was carribd. • • Cr Rigg was appointed to vote for the Council at the .Wellington Harbour -Board elections. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. Rigg for... .the rest of the term". ' Accounts amounting to £768 2s lOd were submitted and passed for payment.
