LANGUAGE IN THE PARK.
Sir,— Allow me space to draw the attention of the authorities to the use of; bad language in the Masterton Park. On several .occasions complaints have been made by ladies who, with their children, visit the Park in fine weather to have a' little recreation or,rest, as the case May be. On Saturday afternoon, close to the band ro'tunda, some • men( ?) were shoutingi put oaths to one another thatwere;anything; but 'educative to..the children within? earshot. ;'.;, Soiri& fiia^es';'>vh'^'jv'er^siW^g', seyera,l. chains, away /found it necessary to h movg-,.ti|eir. fiarges" to a cleaner part of the, grounds. These hoodlums, ; grown to man's estate, appear to take .deßght in this reprehensive practise, irMspeotiW of'the ; feelings of others; . Ttrey pass coarse jests about passers-by, and ladies or gentlemen of a sensitive or retiring disposition feel the sting rather keenly; There .is.no gainsaying the fact that Masterton is exceptionally well favoured in-having such a beautiful Park so centrally, situated, and when the contemplated improvements are carried out it will no doubt be made good use of by citizens and visitors, as;, well as athletes, as in the past; but I contend that if the* Park is to be put to the best possible use ; the .element of • vulgarity should be..eliminated. :It is regrettable to;have to record it," but there are some men in Masterton who have lost that self-respect which • goe»\a long way in the making of a manly and well-ordered community.—I am, etc., . .' ,
