SECOND DAY'S RACING
BIG HANDICAP WON BY KAUROA. I The concluding day's racing in J connection with the Masterton Rac- ' ing Club was held on the Opaki course yesterday, in fine, though cloudy weather. The attendance of ■the public was 'satisfactory, but did not reach that of the opening day. The racing was of an interesting character, some of the finishes being exciting. ' The arrangements, as on the opening day, were complete, and the events were got oft' well to time. An inquiry into the running of Full Rate in the first race of the day was held by the 'Stewards, and a resolution was passed; that Reid's conduct in trying to get through between Simplex and the rails was unsatisfactory. This was the only inquiry held at the meeting. The totalisator takings for the day amounted to £6213, making £12,602 for the meeting, as against £7073 for the same meeting last year. Following are the details of the racing:— .

2. R. H. Campbell's ch g Te Roti, (St. Paul—Natator mare), 5 yrs, 8.5 (Jenkins) 1 3, 0. F. VaHance's Simplex, aged, 7.2 (McKay) ■"" . 2 1. R. Cooper's Full Rate, aged, 10.7" (S. Reid) 3 (Winner trained by P. McKay.) Also started— 4 Splash 6.12 (McMullen). From a good start, Simplex went to the front, and. soon established a lea'di of a couple of lengths. Te Roti and Full Rate were .together. Entering the straight Simplex was still in the lead.. Half 'way down, Te Roti cam© with, a rush on the outside, and Full Rate on the inside. The latter failed to get through on t the rails, and Te Roti pasasd Simplex, and : won. comfortably by a length, a similar distance between second and third. Time, lmin. 2 4-ssec.

Also; started.— 3 Black Reef 8.0 j (Jenkins), 6 Moondine 7.11 (Mo Mullen), 5 Critic 7.7 (Oliver), 12 Kariki 7.7 (Emerson), 7 Merrie Widow 7.7 (Lowe), 10 Converter 7.7 (Campbell), 2 Operation 7.7 (Ayre),, 8 Dogfish 7.7 (McKay), 11 Egypt 7.7 (King), From a poor start Gaby went to the front, followed by Moondine and Operation, the rest in a bunch. Gaby led into the straight, and won easily by three, lengths.. Lady Volley made a big run at the, finish, and beat Stoneyfalls for second place by half al length. Time, Imin. 3sec.

From a fair sstart • Boyne Water was the first to show in front. B!e was quickly joined by Merrie Valet, and the two put considerable daylight between themselves and the rest of the field. Entering the straight Merrie Valet had a slight advantage. Boyne Water responded gamely, however, wheii asked, and won a well-ridden race by a couple of lengths. The third' horse Ava ß a length away. Time, Imin. 45 3-5 sec The winner was sold with his nomination to a Levin resident on the day before the race. AUTUMN HANDICAP, of llosovs., one niile. 3. H. J. Cameron's blk g Kauroa, (Captain Webb-Sassafrass), 6yr,s, 7.3 (MdVlullen) 1 5. W. M. Halley's Hilarian, 6yrs, 6.7 (Emerson) 2 '4. C. Maybin's Lethean, aged, .:.' 7.5 (R. Young) 3 (Winner trained by T. Lloyd). Also started— 1 Sunbonnet ; 8.6 (W. IMce), 2 Meroze 7.5 (R. Ayre), Sunbonnet got the best of the start, and led for a distance, when he was
joined by Meroze. The two carried on the running until the straight was reached, when the field began to close up. Half way down the straight Kauroa made a fast run, and Sunbonnet and Meroze both failed! to respond to the whip. Kauroa squeezed home by half a length from Hilarian, who came fast at the finish. The same distance separated the second and third horses. Sunbonaiet was fourth. Time, lmin. 41 3-ssec.

Also started— 3 Longwood 8.8 (Jenkins), 5 Melalogue 8.6 (Lowe), 6 Merrie Fly 7.11 (.Price), 7 Queen of Scots 7.8 (McLean), 9 Merrie Emerald 7.8 (Emerson), 8 Turna 7.6 (Trail), 10 Miss Vera 7.0 (Kirk). Merrie Fly was fractious at the post, but when a stai*t was made Vibration showed in front, with the rest in a bunch. Coming to the straight Vibration was still in the >le&d, but Zealand* and Soultiform came at him. The Papakura colt had something left, and won by a length mis a half from Zealand, with Soultiform a similar distance away third. Time, lmin, 16 l-ssec. After: a furlong had been truversed Killaloo showed in the front, and Brown Trout was in close attendance.
