With the support of the wTiole of the Provincial Governments, the Viceroy's Council has. passed a Factory' Act, a twelve-hour divy for all adults, and a six-hour, day for children. This is .Lue first time that direct legislative restrictions, have been, passed affecting meh*s labour. There was continuous opposition from the jute firms of Calcutta, and the cotton firms of Bombay."
