THE SLY-GROGGER.
The sly-grogger, though not confined solely to No-license areas—as has re" cently been demonstrated in Auckland and Wellington—is a menace to a community, He is.a, creature-of circumstances, no doubt, and wouldnot exist unless he was supported : by a. section of the public. The lawV unhappily, does not. provide a, sufficiently drastic treatment for those who are suspected of patronising the sly-grog seller. A few salutary sentences such as that imposed by Mr L. G. Reid, S.M., in Masterton yesterday, will have a repressing effect.
