MASTERTON FOOTBALL CLUB.
I | ANNUAL REPORT. J The following annual report ivas presented at the animal, meeting of the Masterton Football Club last evening:— In presenting the annual report and balance sheet of the Masterton Football Club, your committee have much pleasure in congratulating the Club on its .satisfactory position. The Club was unsuccessful in putting a senior team in the field last year, and' confined itself into a junior and third-class team. The junior team is to be congratulated oil its successful stand last season. This team, although a. light oiie, practically all third-class players .from the previous season, went on the field to buck in and play the game, and surprised some of its most enthusiastic supporters by its success. The team were runners up for the junior championship, being beaten for first place" by the Dalefield team, /which proved too weighty •for our boys. However, the congratulations of our Club are due to ~the team for the excellent showing it made, and it is to be hoped that the team will stick together and go in a body to senior football. From this team we regret to record the loss from the district "during the season of Messrs Fisher and ■ Carmine. Had tliey stayed the result of the championship miglit have beeii different. : * We understand- MrFisher has' since distinguished himself in senior football in Dannevirke, and Mr Carmine is playing a solid gam© down the West Coast. In representative matches the Club was represented by Messrs Thompson, Hanley and Yates (backs), and Mr Dixon in the forwards, and our members did not disgrace themselves. In the Pearson Cup match our junior team was not successful, the match being played while two 'or three of our best players were away with the representative team, and our team was beaten by our heavier opponents, the Stars. We congratulate the Stars on keeping the Shield in Masterton. , Two ( j medals were kindly presented for competition amongst the junior team by Mr G. W. Sellar. One for the best back, won by Mr G. Yates, and the other for the best forward, won by Mr :S. Dixon. Both these players played up consistently during the season, and w'j.l no doubt shine among the leaders during the present season. The third-class team was not so successful, but for all that they deserve every credit. They battled along with a weak team, and were handicapped by some of the best players being unafele to play every Saturday, otherwise, no doubt, they would have figured more prominently in cup matches; Among the very young members of the club there is a lot of very promising material which we hope to see come to light .during the . present season. Financially the Club is in a very fair condition. There are no liabilities, and although the credit balance of £1 14s Bd' cash in hand is not so 'large as. last year, a glaiice-at. the iaiahice! t vgreatefit expenditure fofe£H]jie :* year, •was for insurance paid* to tile Rugby Union, most of which was for the j previous year. The thanks of our Club are due to Messrs D. K. Logan, W. G. Lamb, and G. W- Sellar, for Venations to our Club. The unsatisfactory item, "outstanding subs.," still appears on our balance sheet, and your committee hope that this item will next year be deleted. It behoves all. members to pay their subscriptionsi punctually, and not only help the Club along, but also save the secretary a lot of trouble. With our junior and third-class men of last year coming on, and new members, your committee are in hopes of putting a senior team in the field this season, and it is the duty, of this meeting, to .decide. whe-. ther a senior team will be entered on.'hot,..and it. is the of, along, any- hew member and sefi that all our teams * .are kept full. If "is. to be remem- : bored • that to keep a senior team going new' material must be provided, from junior and third-class players. ■
