TE WHARAU.

The weather has been beautiful and summer-like here for the past week, and the country is looking well on all sides. On Thursday of last week 80 degrees were registered in the shade. Some splendid burns hare taken place where bush and scrub were felled. Inspector J. S. Tennant, of the ) Wellington Education Board, paid his annual visit to Te Wharau school on Tuesday. ! The labour market continues fairly brisk in this district, quite a number of men passing through on their way to work on the various farms and stations. A large number of tradesmen are engaged in building a new residence for Mr H. Nitz, at Stansboro'. Quite a fashionable gathering of people assembled at Homewood on Saturday last, to witness the return cricket match between Kaiwhata and Glenburn—Flat Point teams. The weather was ideal, and the match resulted! in a win for Kaiwhata by 8 wickets. The chief scores for Kaiwhata were put up i.y W. N. Kummer, who -batted brilliantly ior 6(3 and 31, P. Kummer ,31, H. Nitz 15, lYNite 14, and- Pre-' shaw 12. For Glenburn, Fitzgerald 32 .and 26, v Lees 12 and 14, Ashworth 33, and McMullen 15 were the best scores; For Kaiwhata, H. Nitz easily carried the bowling, honours, taking 10 wickets in the two innings, aiid W. N. Kummer secured four and E. Nitz two wickets. For Glenburn, McMullen took V wickets Ash worth 2 and Bunny 2. In the evening a very enjoyable tennis dance was held in the hall, a large : number being present. The large gathering was entertained by Mr Tatham, of Homewood. , ' The Rev. Thompson, of!Carterton, terminated a very successful series of meetings here on Friday last. Miss Mather, of Christchurch, I who has been staying at Bankview for some time, has again left for the South.
