TIMARU HOSPITAL BOARD.

TIMARU, Last Night

At a meeting of the Hospital Board to-day, highly caustic comment was made on the manner in which the Board was being treated by the Inspector-General over the regulations for a consumptive sanatorium for South Canterbury and Ashburton. The two Boards under the provision of the statute expressly provided entered into an agreement to maintain a sanatorium near Fairlie, and Dr Valintine approved of the agreement. Regulations were drawn up, but the gazetting was delayed by the Department until the new Act was passed, and'the Department say that the Boards must follow de novo. The Board to-day decided! not to do so, but, if necessary, subject to the approval of the Ashburton Board, to apply to the Supreme Court for a mandamus directing that the regulaJiofisHbe. gazetted. A second subject-of similar comment is the Inspector-General's conditional approval of the plans submitted for a new Old People's Home.

Dealing with the ordinary business, the Board adopted a recommendation of the Waimate Committee that legislation should be sought for to prevent accident patients making a compromise with the Accident Insurance Company without the. consent of the Hospital Board, to which they were indebted .for treatment.
