MASTERTON TRUST LANDS TRUST.
QUESTION OF A RIGHT-OF-
WAY
A PERSONAL ELEMENT.
A special meeting of the Master- J ton Trust Lands Trustees was held last evening, to consider a report by Mr H. C. Robinson on the question of the right-of-way to the police station. There were present,— Messrs T. Wagg (chairman), C. E. Daniell, E. G. Eton, H. C. L. Robinson, R. Krahagen, D. Caselberg, and 0. N. C. Pragnell. Mr Robinson reported that on the 10th of February, 1911, he was authorised to obtain a right-of-way from Hall Street alongside the constable's residence to the police station, or from Chapel Street to the I police station. When the exchange of sites was completed l with the j Crown, the obtaining of a right-of-way was omitted. The report butlined the steps taken by Mr Robinson, to secure a right-of-way, and ■showed that the arrangements for one from' Hall Street had reached a' point that anyone might safely assume that the right-of-way will be granted. Mr Daniell stated that when "■ he~ and Mr Caselberg had the matter in .hand, they had taken the negoti-1 ations to the same stage as Mr Robinson, except that Mr Robinson ■had practically gained the consent of the Minister.... .-.'''.
Mv Eton congratulated Mr Robinson, on. producing such, a comprehensive report, and he proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Robinson for carrying the negotiations to such a successful .issue.
Mr Jackson also spoke highly of Mr Robinson's.action, and he added that the right-of-way was'to be obtained at no cost at all to the Trust. The Government was daserv-, ing of thanks, also, for meeting the Trust as it had.
Mr Krahagen, Mr Caselberg, and Mr Pragnell supported the previous speakers. Mr Eton's motion was withdrawn, and he moved that the report be adopted, stating that it was satisfactory to have the matter cleared up.
Mr Daniell stated that in endorsing the report the Trust was reflect-, ihg on hiin as a previous .•■chairman,"' The report of Mr Robinson was very peraohal in * some places, and he (Mr Daniell) would not discuss personal matters.
Mr Robinson seconded Mr Eton's motion. He challenged Mr Daniell to say that the'facts embodied in,-his' report were not correct. The ; sug-" gestion that the matter of the right-of-way would haire been completed was most incomprehensible. The -whole/matter had been dropped owing to -a 'humiliating' and incorrect letter being written.by the secretary, who was instructed by Mr Daniell as chairman, to the Government, in which: -the exchange 1 of sites was .completed., Mr Robinson .said he was prepared ,tO; say that if he had not been authorised.'to .complete the negotiations, the right-of-way- 'would: not hive been promised, now. . : .'"'' -Mr ; •'Pragnell'''siftteii; i 'thiat ■it was very/.unfortunate that the personal element's had- been introduced at-all. Some parts of the report should certainly be struck out. Mr PragneU moved as an amendment to, Mr Eton's motion that Mr Robinson be thanked for his work in connection with the report. Mr Wagg seconded the amendment.
iMr Eton said that the report had not been contradicted by Mr Daniell, so he would therefore continue to support its adoption. . . 'Mr Robinson, who seconded the motion, said he* was prepared to alter the word adopted to received. Mr Eton agreed to this, and Mr Pragnell withdrew his amendment. .' ■ ■ j ;The motion as amended was carried. ■.;'. V;-; -.-." .-•■;•■...•','■ /■■..'• ,r ;-.
