SLUMP IN KAURI GUM.
DARGAVILLE, Last NigM
The depression in the kauri' gum market, which has prevailed throughout the year,- shows no-sign of passing away, and the. diggers, •espmally. the Crpatiamsi are ileavmg the fields in large numbers, in search of more remunerative aveaues <ot employment. It ''has been asserted that the depression- is due to the aidchinationa of a combine in London, but enquiries have failed to elicit sufficient evidence to substantiate that" theory. It would- seem that one reason for the slump is over-production, and another is the substitutes for kauri, in the shape of :other guijjs, being placed on the market.-' , v kK '■■;. •.
