MASTERTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MEETING OF COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. There were present; Messrs F. W. Carey (presiding), A. Henderson, J. B. Moodie, V. Donald, C. E. Daniell, J. C. Ewington, G. C. Summerell, W. B. Chennclls, G. W. Sellar, and E. H. Waddington. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs R. Brown and J.B.Keith. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £7 10s Id. A letter.was received from the Dannevirke Chamber of Commerce drawing attention to the methods adopted by the various telephone exchanges in rendering accounts, and stating that as matters stood at present there was absolutely no check on them. —Mr Henderson stated that he made a practice of checking his own telephone services with outside districts with a watch. Mr Chennells thought that a good deal of the trouble arose with the subscribers themselves. :Mr Summerell agreed with I"r Chennells. Personally he was quite satisfied with the details given. It was decided to advise the Dannevirko'Chamber of Commerce that -the advices received from the local office were satisfactory. Mr F. C. Daniell, Hamilton, wrote stating that he had been trying to get private telephone lines introduced into the Hamilton district. He asked the' Masterton Chamber for informa- / tion in regard to the matter. (
Several members of the Chamber expressed the opinion that the telephone communication with country districts was a great "boon to settlers and business men. It was decided to supply Mr Daniell with the information asked for. .
Several other matters (reported elsewhere) were also discussed.
