A communication from the Hon. J. A. [Millar, Minister for Railways, was read at yesterday's meeting of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce, detailing the proposed alterations in the railway time-table. ' The Chairman . stated that it appeared that the whole responsibility for the changes was placed upon the Chamber. ; • ....... , .Mr;W.B;.Chennells l thought .that the hew time-table was a great improvement upon the old, and the Chamber was to be congratulated upon the concessions it had been able to gain. Mr Daniell agreed that the neAV time-table was an improvement. At the same time he thought the Kaitoke ston should be done away with, and th.ii t the time taken in the journey from Wellington wai?- altogether too lowr. Mr Snmmerell thought they should be thankful .for small, mercies. .. ■ >;;

Mr Daniell protested .against. : <#is character of the Minister's considered that a business be placed in charge of the railways. Tbi whole thing seemed, at present, to bo controlled by politics. After some discussion, it was decided that the formulating of a letter of acknowledgment to the Minister be left in the hands of the railway subcommittee of the Qhamber.
