AMUSEMENTS.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.

Picture-show irequenlers'- have long since ceased to marvel tiiat such and complete' programmes, changed twice a week, can be presented at the Foresters' Hall. They, know that Messrs Thompson and Payne perform the wonder with the regularity of a much easier task. The new budget last evening demonstrated that,, a-s usual, the world had been searched for interesting descriptive films and the best of histrionic talent called in to aid the camera in presenting comedy and -drama. The dramatic section was particularly exciting, and the various incidents in each study were closely followed by those present. ' 'The - Telephone'' pictured in its opening scene a happy family party, the father being about to depart to Ills club. His wife and child retire, leaving a cat in the room, which upsets the lamp, . and a. fire follows. The. events leading tip to the use of the telephone as a means to bring help are vividly depicted. Another striking drama was the Roman story "Agrippina," detailing the assassination of Nero's mother at his own instigation. The best of a fine range of scenics was a film showing an ascent of Portjengral, a towering peak in the Swiss Alps. The delights of bob-sleighing were shown in a picture of that name, while roars of laughter were caused by the comics and comedies, chief among which were. "Foolshead as Hygiene Inspector," "Grandpa's Forty Winks," and "Effecting a Curs." The programme will be repeated this evening.
