MASTERTON HOSPITAL.

A SURPRISE VISIT.

A pleasant surprise was sprung upon the patients at the Masterton Hospital yesterday afternoon by the Rev. Dean McKenna, who visited the institution accompanied by several of the pupils of St. Bride's Convent, and Miss Simpson, of Wellington, who is at present visiting Masterton for the,•purpose of contributing to the programme of St. Patrick's concert tins evening.

Miss Simpson is ah accomplished flautist;;! was., taken of* her visit to organise a short "concert programme, which, was .greatly,en-,, joyed-by. the patients .• and visitors present.':', ,_ "'■'..'■ '-v**' '**■'■-:■>■'■•

The • young ' ladies of St. Bride' a' ; Cdirvent.a)so contributed to the enjoyment of those present by adding to the. programme an Irish dance, which was given ,with much grace and aplomb. Pianoforte soloS were also rendered by the pupils of St. Bride's and other visitors.

Miss Simpson's rendering on the flute, accompanied on the piano, of several well-known Irish airs, Was a. treat, and was agreeably appreciated by those privileged to he present.'

At the conclusion of the programme, afternoon tea was dispensed to the visitors by the hospital staff, and the gathering then dispersed.
