POLITICAL "TRIMMING."!
MR HORNSBY'S POSITION,
,A correspondent, , "Democrat," writes as follows to the Wairariipa* Age:—"l notice that Mr Hornsby is punctilious over his verbiage. Hesays he did not express himself 'diametrically opposed to the Government.' This is only trimming. His expressed opinions concerning the land question and the Elective Executive were, as you remarked, diametrically opposed 1 to the views of the Government. As for the> threefifth's majority, he, no <loiibt, feels aggrieved at the question having been put to him. He is, I understand, posing as a prohibitionist and' a democrat. How can he reconcile his position as such with his definite, declaration ■ that he is not prepared: to allow the licensing question to bedecided by a bare majority? Mr Hornsby may not be exactly a 'faker,' as it has been described by Mr H. G. Williams. He is, however, an 'oiler' and 'trimmer' of the first order."
