MASTERTON STOCK SALE
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., report as follows on their weekly .sale at the Solway yards yesterday:—We submitted another heavy yarding of sheep, every class being represented. The quality of tho sheep with a few exceptions was inferior, the aged and faulty sorts being much, in evidence, these meeting with a very poor reception, boiler rates ruling. Many of the medium | class were passed out, mostly, howover, being dealt with afterwards, and at the close of the clay a very small proportion of tho catalogue remained unsold. Tho rates generally all through were much lower than those ruling at recent markets. In rams, we offered in all 60. embracing Lincolns, Ronjncys, Southdowns and Leicesters. In Lincolns Ave made a clearance, as also all Southdowns and a few Border Leicesters. The only sheep failing to sell were Romneys. In mutton heavy fat ewes made 13s 2d; best wethers made 13s Id, others lis Gd; breeding ewes, sound. Ss to 9s 6d, medium 6s to 7s 6d, culls, 2s to 4s. In lambs,
best Downs made Bs. others 6s lOd. 6s 6d, 5s Gd, culls, 3s Gd to 4s 6d. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Masterton sale yesterday, as follows:—The Associated Auctioneers offered a full yarding of sheen, our entry comprising 3000 sheep of various sorts. The entry in cattle was small, only a few pens being submitted. The quality of the ] sheep on tho whole was not up to recent yardings with the exception of a few special entries, and the sale dragged throughout. Buyers were, however, present, and practically the whole yarding changed hands, but at •prices slightly in favour of purchasers. Messrs Laing Bros.' sheep sold well, the entry comprising well-grown, good-skinned sheep in first-class con-1 dition. The two-tooth wethers made i i 13s 3d, cull 2-tooth ewes 12s Gd, and J woolly wether lambs Bs, and ewes lis I 4d, the last mentioned price being somewhat disappointing, and if the line had been offered the previous week would have made is more. Mr W. T.' Wilton's 2-tooth wethers, which were good sheep, also made 13s 3d. Mr James McGregor's cull S.D. ewes made two guineas, which must be considered a satisfactory price. Other sales were: —2-tooth wethers in forward condition, 12s 6d to 13s 3d, culls, 9s 6d to 10s, rubbish, 7s lOd; cull two-tooth ewes, 12s to 12s 6d; aged ewes.with good mouths, lis to lis 4d, others 7s Gd, crocks, down to 3s 5d ; good woolly store lambs. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows: —Yesterday at our weekly sale in the Solway yards, sheep came forward well up to advertised. numbers. The attendance of the public was not so large as at the two previous sales, and bidding was less spirited. A large proportion of the yarding comprised aged and inferior ewes, and the demand for this class of. sheep was anything but keen. When compared with last sale, prices, exCopt for good wethers, showed a decline. There were buyers present for good sound breeding ewes, but only a few lines of such sheep came under the hammer. Fat sheep were well competed for, and all offered sold up to late rates. The yarding of cattle was small, and no sale of any consequence •was made. We quote as follows: — Fat ewes, 12s Id to 13s 2d; on account Fernyhurst Estate, 540 s.m. ewes, at lis, others at from 8s lOd to 10s Id, 4-tooth ewes (small), lis 4d, 2-tooth ewes, from 9s 9d to 12s, 2-th | wethers, 12s; lambs were not in great demand, and prices were all in favour of buyers; we sold goocl store woolly lambs at from 6s 8d to 7s 3d. medium do. 5s to os 9d; good shorn lambs, 6s 6dto7s7d; inferior. 3s to 3s Gd.
