Ribotone Pippin was purchased by Mr J. R. ■ McDonald : oii the morning of the second day's races aft Wiangamii. As 'lie'won the Hack, Hurdles a few hours later,- the. purchaser soon, received a goodly portion of his outlav.
Lord Soult is at present running out at' Hastings, and may not be put into Amrk foi 1 some weeks. Notwithstanding (this, the Soult gelding is practically first favourite for the Great Easier Handicap. Lovers of a good horse will. bs. glad to learn itliait Bohvikoff is doing, satisfactory work- at Napier Park. Merrivonia. vrm slightly sore after running in the Wah'ga'nui Oup, and "will be spelled for a time. The steeplechaser Nero is to be ridden about as a hack preparatory to ibeing put into work for wimter events. Mr Josiah Tocker, of Feaitherston, the owner of Livonia, dam of Merrivonda, has <a yearling colt by Achilles-from the first named, thait is highly spoken, of. The members of the Racing Commission have visited several racecourses in the Wauganui and Taranaki districts, and this week will tour the Weat Ooastt for the same pm-pos©. This district will probably come under the notice of the Commissioners next week. Marton made his first appearance over hurdles at Danhevirke yesterday, and won in good ■style. The Maluchi gelding has a lot of pace, and as he is a good weight carrier should be useful over the sticks durrng the winter. Allurement, winner of the Makirikiri Hack at Dannevirke, is a member of the successful Soult family. She was. recently purchased hy Mr J: Jamieson from. "Mr High-
den." Followers of form favoured Te Puia for the Dannevirke Cup, and the Sau Fran mare scored from j.'or!t' William. Te Puia ran a sterling race in the Wunganui Stakes last week, finishing second to Lady Medallist. On this running the San Fran mare appeared to be a good proposition for the Dannevirke Cup. As fully expected, the St. Ambrose filly, Sinapis, accounted for the Nursery Handicap. H. Fletcher lias this filly in splendid racing condition just now.
