EAST MAURICEVILLE.
Ants, which are said here to cause havoc among poultry, are now on the wing in myriads. | We have among us a person I should cail a pumpkin and marrow fancier. Last year he vsited various gardens, selecting the biggest and best developed vegetables of the afore-mentioned kinds, and in some cases, scooping the lot. This year before the vegetables are finished growing, he lias visited one garden, and made his presence felt. Needless to say these vists are all made after dark. The School Committee held their usual monthly meeting in the school on Monday night. The following is the result of the competition for Mr Kummer's trophy, given to the schoolboys for a two-range shoot at the hazard target (ranges 3Gft and 60ft; possible 70):—William Fisher, 33, 23 56 ; Reuben Farmer, 28, 24—52 ; Walter Barrat-, 31, 19—50; Edward Mortensen, 28, 15—43. Those who delight in mushroom ketchup will find the mushrooms growing on the hillsides in this neighbourhood in countless numbers.
