Noavs has been received from Perth, Western Australia, of the death on March 2nd of Mr S. J. Jago, for a number of years chief postmaster at Napier. Sir Joseph Ward and Dr. Findlay, accompanied by their wives and secretaries, left Wellington for. Auckland, en route to England, on Saturday. • Mr R. M'Nab has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the Victoria College Council caused by the resignation of Mr W. H. Quick. Mr J.'M. Wilson, of the Valuation Department, has been appointed an inspector of properties and valuer to the Advances to Settlers Office. A Press Association telegram from Dunedin records the death of Dr. Douglas, of Queenstown, who was in charge of the Frankton Hospital from "1864 to 1910. The funeral of the late Mr C. Forsberg took place at the Mauriceyille cemetery on Saturday last. There' was a large attendance of friends and relatives. Many beautiful wreaths, testifying to the respect and esteem in which deceased was held, were laid upon the grave. ' Pastor B. Peterson officiated at the graveside.
