The decorations promise to be the best. St. Mark's Church choir held a picnic in Messrs Deller and . Kenv ble's bush at Parkvale on Thursday, when a very enjoyable time was spent by the choir members and a number of friends. 1* is probable that the affair win be made an annual one. At the Jbcal bowling green on Thursday afternoon, Messrs A. Bungay and W. Benton (Featherston) defeated Messrs VV. Fisher and W. Whyte (Carterton), holders of the Grady medals. The weather being experienced here at 'the present time is somewhat unsettled, and is hindering , the operations of the threshing machines. Complaints are being 'made about .our poorly lighted streets on dark nights. This was >a grievance . in the days of old, when kerosene lamps were used,' but now ■we have gasworks, and surely we should •have well lighted streets. On Thursday "evening, a pitch dark and damp .night, Pembroke Street was enveloped in darkness, and the southern end of the town could voice the same complaint.
