THE HORTICULTURAL GARDEN COMPETITION.
[To The Editor. ]
Sir,—Mr R. Dixon, who deservedly won the Cottage Garden Competition, is to be congratulated firstly on his success, because there is no doubt that his place is a model one, and secondly, the generous spirit lief has shown by publicJy announcing his intention of not again competing. This removes the impossible barrier for other competitors. I hope, for the welfare of our Horticultural Society, the lead Mr Dixon has given will be followed by others, who, year in and year out, take the bulk of the prizes in the amateur classes, by being generous enough to compete only in the open classes, and -give us amateurs pure and simple an opportunity of gaining a prize.—l - am, etc., "AMATEUR."
