(By "Zetland.")
The St; Ambrose —Prologue filly, Sinapis, is doing; very . satisfactory work at Tanner enikau. Warloeh, who has been used for hack work during the summer, appears to be quite sound again-. It is probable that' the Strathbraan gelding may be put into work shortly wiith a view to hurdle racing iiti the winter. . Jolly Maiden,, who is trained by -■Wv Gaibraith, of Feathers ton, came . ,in contact with a '■wire fence a few days ago,'and was exit about rather severely. She was quickly attended to, .and her trainer expects, to have ■ ithe Kileheran filly in commission again shortly. The hurdler, 'Sum-ay, is all the : better for his racing at Woodville, last week, and when next seen, out. in public should show to advantage. Mow that hurdle horses are in. j&omewhat short supply, Sunray slioukl ieasily pay his. way, especially if properly placed. Epsom Downs has been leased by A. G. King to J. F. Peachey. ' Lord Soult is in future to be trained by H. HiGkey, at Hastings. After racing at Dunedin, Effort lightened up considerably, and is to, be 'treated to a spell. ' Ma'hutonga. is in work . again at j ■ Gisborne, and.if he stands training, -is intended for Hurdle racing. The ison of Quilt .would be' one of the first-class brigade in this department and. a typical Grand National horse, j A notable absentee from the Great J Autumn held is Lady Medallist. This mare, under ordinary circumstances, should be in splendid racing trim at Easter time. It is on the cards that Lady Medallist may be raced in Australia during, the autiimn.' Here ward, by Stepniak-Fairymaid, i has been purchased by Mr D. Egan, > of Palmerston, from Mr J. H. Pros- - ser, and will be. trained by V. j O'Neill. The Saracen gelding Over-. ' heard has lately joined this trainer's team. The well-performed Wimmera hap just been put into work again. He is said to be all the better for his spell and will be got ready for winter racing. It is now stated that the racing t career of California is ended. The - San Fran norse is looking well, but it is very questionable whether, lie 8 would stand! a strong preparation. Messrs O'Connor and Piper, ...the. leading New Zealand starters, have ' lately secured the services of assistants at the barriers, and needless to say the despatches are more even while less time is wasted at the starts.
