CLOSER SETTLEMENT.
A SUGGESTION". '<
Our ; Tenui correspondent writes as ; follows:—"lnstead of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce forming a railway league, would it not be a wiser nlan to form a 'Closer; Settlement -League,' and when Sir Joseph Ward comes back to the Dominion to call "a, huge open air meeting, say in the Masterton Showgrounds, of all those who. are in favour of more people on\ the land in the Wairarapa? All-the .voting men who have, a little capital and are anxious to go on the . Jand would be lined up in a body, to show members «f the Cabinet what a splendid class of young bone and sinew tliere is going to waste for the want of opportunity. .If the land were closely set- " wouM be running every few hours, carrying produce all the year round. It is useless waiting for our present Wairarapa members of Parliament.to, make a move towards closer settlement, the people must 'pick up a bit.' "
