Elliott who were appointed to obtain the services of an Acting-Town Clurk, reported at last night's meeting of the Masterton Borough Council that they had invited Mr J. M. The Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club intends running two races on the Park Oval on Thursday evening- next. The distances will' be 220' yard's and 880 yards, and'as the Swimming Club' has arranged to put on some swimming races on the lake on the same evening, the first heat of the running events will be started at 6 p.m. sharp. Some time ago a scheme for bringing farm labourers from England' to New Zealand was drawn up by the Auckland Provincial Farmers' Union, and Mr J. Flanagan will" shortly leave for England, says the New Zealand Herald, for the purpose of arranging for the emigration of labourers. The Labour Department lias agreed to give assistance in procuring employment forearm labourers who may be brought out under'the scheme.

The Borough Engineer- submitted a report to thVCouncil last evening concerning the waterworks and the sewige disposal works. The Very Rev Dean McKenna waited on the Masterton Borough Council at its meeting last night, on behalf of Mrs Collins, in connection with a claim for compensation for loss jof land by the widening pf Kuripuni Street. Dean McKenna put the matter*before the Council, and asked for their favourable consideration. The matter was left in the Hands of the Mayor and Crs. Elliott, P/ragnell, and Prentice to report.
