MAURICEVILLE WEST.
The annual meeting of the Social Club was held in the Hall on Tuesday night. The following were appointed officers for the coming season:—President, Mr G. Blackmore;-vice-presi-dent, Mr J. Barnett; stage manager, Mr C. Brooks; property manager; Mr T. Parkes; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Braggins. Arrangements were made to hold a progressive euchre party and dance on the 9th of March. Mr W. Martin is at present undergoing treatment in Wellington under Dr. Wallace Mackenzie ' for : ear trouble. We wish the young man a speedy recovery. Mr Jack Twomey is in Napier, also for health reasons. On his return he will be transferred to Waipukurau. A good practice game of cricket was held on the Horse Shoe Bend "between the East and West teams on Thursday afternoon. Owing to several players not being able to remain, only one innings was played, the result being 98 runs for Mauriceville East, and ;77 for the West. Mr Deadman, whose house was burned down some few weeks ago, has now a new house nearly completed oh the, spot, i ; Word has been received from Pahiatua that their cricket eleven will visit here on the 4th to try conclusions withthe Mauriceville club. ''•; v Mr.Fritz. Kummer' has given a ' trophy, for the schoolboys, and prom- - ised a silver medal for the best shot at the end of the current year. The.' boys are buying their, own, ammunition, and some good shooting may be looked for from the youthful shooters. They are fortunate in having such a friend as Mr Kummer to take ani interest in their sport. ; :
