SECTION 13.

In connection with the 1 vexed question of section 18 of the Shops and Offices' Act, 1910, advice has been received' from the Labour Department that the section in question will not be interpreted to interfere with any partner who may be.engaged in,his shop behind! closed doors—that is to 'say,- so long as he is noti engaged or assisting in the sale or delivery of goods after the hours fixed for assistants. It is very nice of the Labour Department to interpret the Act in this fashion'. AMiough the interpretation would hardly stand the scrutiny of a Supreme Court Judge, it will save the face of the Government until the necessary amendment of the law is made.
