ALLEGED HUMOUR.

The Palmerston North morning journal possesses a sense of humour peculiarly its own—a humour which would almost cause the late lamented Mark Twain to turn in his grave. It finds in the requisition to Mr J. C. Cooper, of Masterton, by the "prominent Liberals," the excuse for a column of rubbish about the calling of Mr Cooper to the Upper House, the handing over to him of the Premiership, the carrying of sheep free on the railways to the Waingawa Avorks, and so forth. The recent Band Contest must have had a depressing effect upon the editor of the Palmerston journal. The judge's decision would appear to have unnerved him. His sense of humour has been perverted. He cannot discriminate between the "sharps" and the "flats." He is undone.
