CUP WON BY THE ROVER
By Telegraph—Press WOODVILLE, Last Night. The autumn meeting of the Woodville Jockey Club was commenced in delightful weather to-day. The rain wliich fell on Monday freshened the course in a wonderful manner. The attendance was large, and speculation brisk, a sum of £8604 passing through the totaJisator, which was £1702 in excess of that'of the "corresponding day last year. The. arI rangements were perfect, consequently the sport was most enjoyable. The only jarring note was when 01liver was brought before 'the stew- j ards and cautioned for. interference with Altear in the Maicleii. .Following are. the results:—:. - Maiden Plate.— Altear 1, Allurement 2, Piriwai 3. Also started— Staft'a, Vesuvius, Gay Lawless, Melologue, Ohine, Jargon, . St.. Bess, Fleet-Week, Florence Nightingale, Ngakau. Won by half a length. Time, lmin. 15 2-osec. Hurdles.— Te Whetu 1, Sunray 2, Millenial 3. Also ran.— Burton, Waiputere, Ultimatum. At the first hurdle Burton jumped over the fence into the paddock and lost his rider. Tewlietu led all the way, and won by a length. Time, 3min. 26sec. .Jiariti Hack.— Attention 1, Cheddar 2, Floater 3. A great race. All the horses were .well' up at the finish. Won by. half a head. President's Handicap.— Aimwell 1, Toanga 2, Afterthought 3, Also' , started—Captain Bell,, ; Bqurrasquei Seaweed, 'Wa jpunui, C unboat. Afterthought and Seaweed made the running, but Aimwell came through , at the distance post and won by half . a length. Time, lmin. 13 2-ssec., : Victoria Julian 1, Peacemaker 2, Appin 3.
