'■> A conference of' representatives of the various athletic and sports bodies of Wellington was held to-night, to consider means of raising funds to secure the representation of New Zealand at tthe Empire Sports FestiVal. The chairman stated that at least £4uO would be required to finance a team of three men. About £6O was already in hand as the result of the Band entertainment in the Town Hall on Monday night. The representative of the Boxing Council said that subscription lists "had already been circulated, and he thought that if all interested pulled together they could raise the necessary money without much trouble. Another delegate said it was well known, that Champion, of Auckland, ' was' good enough to represent Aus- j tralasia in the swimming division, though no move had been made to ,send him. •As far as tennis was concerned, Wilding was already at Home, and Hawkins would be able to go if he was selected. A telegram was read from Cham- '. pion to the effect that he would be willing to go subject to certain conditions. It was decided that flie meeting should resolve itself into a commirttee to consider ways and means, and iixii-Ti the secretary communicate with other centres, invoking their aid. It was also decided to cable to Australia, asking for definite information as to the representation desired.
