A cable in the Australian newspapers say that the engagement of Miss Marie Lohr to Mr Robert Loraine, the actor-aviator, has been broken off. The remains of the late Mrs Kate Gardiner were interred in the Masterton cemetery yesterday. , The cere- : mony at the grave was performed by the Rev. H. Watson. After forty-three years' active service in the Methodist Ministry in New ' Zealand, the Rev. H. Bull," who for the past nine years has been Methodist connexional secretai'y for New Zealand, is retiring on a. pension early in April. His successor as connexipnal secretary will bo Rev. S. Lawry, now of Papanui. At All Saints Church, Palmerston, yesterday, there was a crowded assemblage to witness the wedding of Alys. second daughter of Mrs Frederick Riddiford, and Mr Henry Fita- . Herbert Arkwright, of "Overton," v Marton, third son of Canon Ark- '", wright, Newbury, England. The church was beautifully decorated by the friends of the bride, and presented n charming appearance, a wealth of flowers and foliage having been used with delightful effect. " •
