AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE.
Received This Morning, 1.40 o'clock,
SYDNEY, February 21. A representative meeting held under the auspices of the British Immigration League, over 'which the Lord Mayor presided, adopted resolutions pledging. itself to support any action taken by the Minister of Defence, to ensure at the earliest moment an adequate supply of arms and ammunition to enable the whole of the adult population to take part in the defence of the country if the necessity should arises urging the Federal Ministry to consider if the unsettled international conditions did not . require the extension of defence, and preparations to include youths attaining the age of eighteen years in 1911 under compulsory training; and provision for compulsory adult training in that year. A resolution was also passed recommending that steps be taken to ensure uniformity in the gauge of railway lines, in order to facilitate defence.
