TRAFFICKING IN LAND.
An interesting, though somewhat belated return has just been issued by the Under-Secretary for Lands to the order of Mr Stalhvorthy, a Govern men* member of the House of Representatives. This shows that, during the two years ending March 31st, 1910, no fewer than 3250 transfers df ;Orown 'lands were made, by the various Land Boaa-ds of the Do-' minion. This represents very nearly I one-eighth .of total number of ('.own leases in the Dominion. It" has 'remained for a follower of the Minister of Lands to show to what an alarming: extent the trafficking, in Crown lands 'is being practised in New Zealand." If a return were propared showing the -total number ■ f transfers which have taken place , since the present land laws came into operation, it would probably ?e found that ninety per cent, of the original selectors had either transferred or forfeited. .
