THE EARTH HUNGER.
lii the course of a disingenuous speech at Ashburtoii last week, the Prime Minister wished his hearers to believe .that the settlement of the land in the Dominion was proceeding at a sufficiently.; quick rate to meet the demands of those who had-.the-., money requisite to take up land. How does he reconcile this* statement with the figures given in a return just issued by his own Under Secretary? - This shows that during the five years ending March 31st, 1910, there were 46,353 for land in the Dominion, and of these, only 6562 were successful at the ballot. lit must be remembered that every 1 person who goes to the ballot has I to satisfy rtlie Land Board that he has sufficient money to work the land for which he is an applicant.
