TE WHARAU.
The weather here during-the past week has been splendid for farming pursuits. The dry weather is appreciated by those engaged in rabbit poisoning. Poisoning has been very successful up to the present, and by the end of the season the rabbit pest will doubtless be greatly diminished. ■ A very large number of sheep and cattle have left this district since the sale last week. No le3s than ten drovers stayed at Te Wharau last night. The farming community of this district was very well represented at the Masterton Show, a largo number of people having travelled through. Mr F. C. H. Cotter, while travelling from Glenburn on Friday morning, had the rare experience of picking up a live penguin on the beach. The bird is evidently a young one, and is in splendid condition. There is also a young one at Glenburn station/and these two Are probably the first to be caught on this coast. The local Rifle Chib will hold a shoot on Sattirday. It is. probable that a strong contingent of riflemen from tin's club will be competing at the Greytown meeting nes#v month. A member of thisNolub woil the championship there last seas^
