MASTERTON RAM FAIR.

LOAN AND MERCANTILE COMPANY'S REPORT.

The New Zealand loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., 1 re- i port having handled some 600 rams breeders from the South Island, Bawke's Bay, West Coast and /the Wairarapa being represented. The local sheep in every class were in better condition and realised better figures than the outsiders. In Romneys, the rates for all good sheep were sourid, and ready saies made, a few inferior sorts only, being neglected. In Downs'prices did not quite come up to the expectations of breeders, who, however, quickly realised that to sell ithey must meet the purchasers, and reserves were reduced, with the result that we made ■a clearance in this class. In Leices- • ters both Borders arid English were represented, but were quite out of favour. The second day opened with Lincolns, the bulk of the entry being locally bred, and this type were in good demand at sound figures, all strong well grown and good conditioned sheep selling freeiy the only lots failing to sell being a few pens of small sheep out of condition, and these mostly from places beyond the Wairarapa. We sold:— Southdowns, on account of S. R. "Lancaster, at 5 guineas j A. J. Coop- - er, 5 guineas; B. H. Slacks 4 guin- / /A : >'~-P/; eas; W. Perry, 42 guineas; J. Macara, 2} guineas.
