DISTRICT NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondents.) CARTERTON A clay pigeon bird handicap match is to be fired under the auspices or' the local Gun Club on Thursday, March 9th for a double-barrell shot gun valued at £6 10s. The Ahiaruhe Sports Club have allotted £SO, in addition to numerous trophies, for.their annual sports fixture to be held on March 2nd. Mr A. Ramsay, who-has been associated with the local post, office staff for the past sixteen years, has been appointed £0 the position of postmaster at Mangaweka. Mr Ramsay's departure will be much regretted, for he 'has made many friends during his residence in our midst, who will join in congratulating hi in upon his well-earned promotion. Mr Ramsay-is a prominent member of the Bowling' and St. .Mark's Masonic Lodge, and has done some useful .service for these institutions during his residence here. Mrs Ramsay and family have also made many friends, who will, miss them particularly in St. Mark's Church circles. Mr T: E. Maunaell left- here on Thursday afteruo,on in his motor car fo.- Palmerston North, where he intends competing at the Tennis Tournament. The annual picnic of the Waihakeke School takes place a<t Taumata Island on Friday.' •
