A great fire destroyed a number of warehouses and the customhouse shed in the city of Buenos A, vs. i !ie damage is estimated at £175,000. The expenses of Filchner's Antarctic expedition have been guaranteed. It leaves Hamburg on May 2nd. Two young women appeared on the boulevards in Paris, atirred in the socalled "harem skirt," which costume includes Turkish trousers. A crowd gathered, and became so interested in them that they were forced to take refuge in a cloak room. They remained there until the police came to their as-. sistance and rescued them. The North Deutsche Zeituhg publishes a version of the speech, and reports Prince Henry (the Kaiser's brother) as saying, in reference to the coming elections: "We have an opportunity, whatever our other differences of opinion may be, to prove our loyalty to the Crown and our will to uphold the State." Admiral von Tirpitz, speaking on the naval debate in the Reichstag, declared that the fleet was never built for offensive purposes. Herr Ledebour said that he hoped the Government would censure. Prince Henry for his speech. Admiral von Tirpitz replied that there was nothing in the speech which should have been ' left unsaid. I
