SHEEP "FAKING."

The idea that sheep are "faked" for show purposes in this Dominion is not generally entertained. It is true that a good many breeders resort to oiling and colouring the fleeces of their sheep. This is not regarded, however, iu a more serious light than the adorning of a horse's tail or the polishing of the coat,, of a: cow. It does not mislead the judge or the public to any great extent, whilst it improves the appearance of the sheep in many instances. The "trimming" of sheep, however, for show is another question. This is a practice which has always b.?en deprecated by judges. Fortunately it is seldom resorted to by New Zealand, breeders. There is no reason, 'therefore,, to attach importance to the.rash. statements of irrer sponsibles that sheep are "being ''faked."
