The Rev. James Rattray, paster of the Presbyteriann Church at Pongarwill be a visitor to Masterton this week. Twenty years ago Mr Rattray was.the officer in charge of the local corps of the Salvation Army. In a letter to a friend, he states that he has a vivid recollection of playing with the old .Volunteer Band at the Masonic funeral which was accorded the late Mr Peter Dickst>n,one of the victims of the Pahiatua poisoning case. ■ ' After the evening services at St. Patrick's Church last evening, the '., choir assembled to make a presentation to Miss Lily Stempa, one of its members, on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Mr A. R. C lunny, the conductor of the choir, ' made the presentation, which took the of a solid silver" tea service, and ;' in doing so referred in eulogistic .terms, -to the assistance rendered the choir < by Miss Stempa during the many years she has been associated with the same as a member, and on behalf of the choir wished Miss Stempa every possibly happiness in the future.
