PRICES OF GRASS SEEDS.
AN EXPECTED ADVANCE,
During the present season the prices of, grass seeds of nearly all descriptions will be much in advance of those'-of. the past, few years, reports the journal of the Department of Agriculture. The-failure of the American cocksfoot harvest has been the pause of large shipments of New Zealand grown seed to the United States,,and, .as this season's crop in the Dominion is Jigbt on average,, the pries locally' will, b-y extremely high for a ; considerable time to come. White clover, owing to the small' European .harvest, has advanced quite 50 per cnet.., -and timothy, generally one vc^'the : cheapest of grasses, last season worth £22 per ton, is now quoted at over £4O per ton. The local ryegrass; harvest, owing to unfavourable weather conditions, is almost certain to be considerably below the average, and prices will in accordance be much higher than usual.
