At the trial or Lr 1-i.tchenko and de Lassy on the charge of murdering Count Bouturlin in May last, de Lassy's typewriter was produced i!n Court. The President of the' Court dictated a letter. ' De Lassy took several minutes in typing two j.incs, and then broke ;down. Experts disagreed over the identification of tlie typewriter with de Lassy's' letter. The President dictated a letter which de Lassy wrote by hand, to test his French spelling. De Lassy repeated one of the. principal errors contained in the letter. ; '■ : Numerous witnesses gave evidence as (to de Lassy's complete moral and financial untrustworthiness. It is alleged that he arranged a conference at a hotel, at which several bogus Russian Ministers and high financiers were present, and rbhat, in consequence of the representations made at the meeting, a Polish millionaire advanced de Lassy £7OOO.
