THE CEREAL HARVEST.

IN MASTERTON DISTRICT. Harvesting operations in - the Masterton district are now practically concluded, and threshing is in full swing. : Reports which v have. reached the Wairarapa Age go to show that, although the crops were affected by the dry weather early in the spring, the yields generally have been well up to expectations. On the Upper Plain, Opaki, and Te Ore Ore the oat crops turned out remarkably well, whilst wheat, which was grown in smaller quantities .than usual/produced good returns. Although smut made its appearance in some of the late crops, it has not proved very serious. On the Taratahi Plains and lower down the Valley the later-sown cereals have produced handsome yields. Half-a-dozen or more threshing mills are at present employed.
